Wireless Door Unlock – TI Low Power Challenge
Our entry to the Texas Instruments Design MSP430 Ultra-Low Power Challenge (www.designmsp430.com). Using the new ez430-Chronos sport development watch, we created an electronic door unlock device. It communicates wirelessly to exchange a secret password (a sequence of taps on the watch’s 3-axis accelerometer). Project detail description and source code available here ziyan.info

thats cool… but no HD recording/encoding?
Sweet, but what if you forget your Watch and key?
Awesome!!!
question(s):
1.- where can i download the file for this project???
2.- would it be possible to incorporate a data gathering memory to register which device unlocked the system, what time and how many times in a definite period of time??
Answers much appreciated.
This is the best we can do in 2010?! Makes me sad.
What if u r too drunk to tap the code correctly?
Cool build! Well done!
My sentiments exactly…also. Isn’t it so much easier to reach into your pocket and grab a key rather than use two hands to access a menu on your watch then tap in a sequence to get your door to unlock? Usually the best solution is often the simplest
@hornsupnet Then you use your keys…
Very well done guys!
I’ve been doing a bunch of developing with the Chronos watch myself. Such a powerful little tool, there’s so much you can do with it!
I was going to use the same application as you, but use it for my car.
I voted you up on the contest site.
Thanks for your support!
1. link for a blog post that contains the link for the source code can be found in the description
2. a audit system has been planned to come out before May

Nice. I’d like to see a voice activation option on the watch.
Dude. That’s freakin’ AWESOME!.
The intuitive sequence coding looks so simple! If you were in & out a lot I can see it making your life much easier & faster.
Great work guys.
I wonder what if you go out and your battery die.
so, we could also use an R/C receiver and transmitter… right? lol
Too tired after study. right… Sure it wasn’t “too drunk to handle keys”?
How does the encryption work? If it’s 128-bit it’s got to be symmetrical encryption (I hope). Do you use some kind of challenge-response?
whats the range on the radio?
Then you don’t get in your door? Duh?
Presumably because you wear your watch all the time. Hopefully (if your sequence isn’t too long), the time it takes you to get through the menu system and do the tapping is less than the time required to get out your keys and open the lock.
Not very secure if everyone knows your password. Alternatively, using voice fingerprinting would seem like a bit much for this microcontroller to handle.
I would love to see this on the market! But I could see its malfunctioning and then being locked out. But great idea.
